VINEYARD STAGE PRESENTED BY THE OREGONIAN

FRIDAY, AUGUST 12TH

11:00 am - 1:00 pm  Carlos Barata

Carlos Barata is a 24 year old, solo acoustic singer-songwriter and performer from Bethlehem, PA, now residing in Salem, OR. With simplistic support by way of his guitar, Barata's strongest suits are soulful vocals paired with colorful, yet accessible lyrics that speak to and reminisce on styles of the motown and rock of yesterday, along with the pop and folk of today. His style can be most readily described as acoustic, alternative, with influences ranging from The Beatles to Jack Johnson, The Temptations, Black Keys, City and Colour, and more!

2:45 - 3:45 pm  Tracy Klas

Tracy Klas is a main stage draw for many festivals throughout the West Coast, she has received Multiple songwriting and performance awards, and has been seen at many top venues. In addition, her Original Songs have been placed in major and independent films for New Line Cinema and Indie film companies. Acoustic shows bring you Tracy’s voice as unforgettable beauty with edge – gets to your head, under your skin and into your heart with powerful vocals and moving lyric. She is reminiscent of the old school vocal power and performance integrity with dynamic and eclectic vocals. Combine that with her own unique songs, her mainstream accessibility, and her ability to write a great hook, you have a fresh yet familiar sound.

8:30 - 10:00 pm  Terry Robb

Terry Robb has long been considered one of the top acoustic blues guitarists. His dynamic fingerpicking style and ability to sound like a hard, yet sophisticated, band all within a solo performance have amazed audiences worldwide and earned him international acclaim. His ensemble playing showcases sheets of sound with lightning-fast soloing of adventurist improvisation. From absorbing music from the great Mississippi Delta, ragtime and country artists, from swing to free jazz, Terry’s foundation is the blues but his influences and music are diverse, always possessing a personal feel unto himself: Roots with a contemporary edge, looking forward.

It seems today that the respect for Roots Rock, Guitar-Slinging, and the Singer Songwriter has been going the way of the Old West...NOT ANYMORE.  Texas native Bruce Thomas Smith has shared event stages with such notables as Portland Legends Jon Koonce (Johnny & The Distractions) - Mike Mitchell (The Kingsmen) - Blues Legend Robbie Laws as well as Grammy winner Doug Smith (Soundtrack: "August Rush"). Other notables include national touring artist John Cleghorn (Dallas, Tx. band "Cleghorn") and International violin virtuoso Kim Angelis.

Performing solo guitarist, Steve Adams, encompasses Jazz/Latin Jazz/Classical/Nuevo Flamenco styles and can even be heard quoting a few Classic Rock gems of yesteryear. In addition to performing solo he is in the Nu Wavers (80s dance), Ramble On (Led Zep tribute), Steve Hale’s Super Soul Heroes, and Michelle DeCourcy and the Rocktarts. He recently released Sunday Morning, an easy listening journey of Bossa Nova, Jazz, Blues, Classical, and New Age.

2:45 - 3:45 pm   Big Bossa Quartet

The Big Bossa Quartet, Featuring Evan Shlaes on the Vibraphone,  Clark Salisbury on Guitar,  Dave Captien  on Bass and Fred Ingram on drums  is a happy mix of Latin, Blues, Jazz and Pop, great for listening or dancing.  Evan Shlaes, band leader, was born in Chicago and worked as a teen playing piano in coffeehouses and bars before moving West and settling in Portland in the 1970's. After a long stint as a touring sound engineer he returned to his musical roots and formed the New Iberians, a popular NW Zydeco and Blues Band.

6:00 - 8:00 pm   New Iberians

The New Iberians are an energetic, festival and club favorite from the Pacific Northwest, guaranteed to get the crowd up and dancin'! Our band takes its name from the gulf coast town  New Iberia, Louisiana, Queen City of the Bayou Teche, Cajun Capital, famous  for its red pepper hot sauce. Our music reflects our roots: Louisiana Zydeco, Northwest Rock,  Chicago Blues.  Bandleader Evan Shlaes was born in Chicago.  He studied accordion and as a teen played blues piano in local bars and coffeehouses. Rubboard player Ural Thomas was born in Meroux (pronounced ME-rocks) Louisiana in 1939 and been in show biz more than 60 years, starting in the 1950's with the doo-wop Monterays.
